King Cobra (Or, Love Look What You've Done To Me) I spit venom like a cobra King Cobra Four forties down And I'm still stone sober Rolling in clover You know it ain't over Rhymes like DDT MCs fall like leaves in October Abracadabra Cold freaky shazam When I'm up on the mic Then you know who I am Cash Money, the myth The magic,The Man, Yo I gots it in the bank Yo I gots it on hand Sucker MCs yo you know you can't hang You was on your momma's titty I was slinging the slang And the rain The rain keeps falling down Oh love, love Look what you've done to me Hand me the mic While my DJ scratches I used to have a fire in my belly Now I’m spitting out ashes Thunder rumbles Lightning flashes Empire stumbles Stock market crashes I'm climbing through the razor wire Just to get what's rightfully Cash's Sitting on the ledge of tears Throwing monkey-wrenches Into the guts of the gears Wars and rumours of wars A tide of blood, a tsunami of tears I'm down in the catacombs Yo, waiting for the atmosphere to clear I got James Dean’s bones In a sauce on my stove I like a big fat spliff Marinated in clove I got more of what you want If you know what I mean Cause I’m a stone cold New York rap machine What’s my Name? Money… The rain, rain Keeps falling down Oh, and love, love Look what you’ve done to me

1980s Neon World Check-check-check-check, y'know You're born alone You die alone (That's kinda cliche, isn't it?) Get-get-get-back Y'know the problem with your music... (I saw a flying saucer once) Is its repetition (It was in 1985 It blocked out half the sky) Come on people; come alive Well, I was raised on lonesome television dinners My mom and dad lost in the dark mingling with sinners Clock ticking... Clock ticking... It made some sounds I dunno... Something like this And I sing... Daddy, oh, daddy Oh, when you coming home Me and my ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma We're left here all alone We're standing by the long-distance telephone We're waiting...waiting Never coming back... (Blocked out half the sky) Waiting... The problem with your music Is its repetition I saw a flying saucer once (Ooh, high-school sweetheart!) And through your bedroom window They watched us making friends Our 1980s neon world was never gonna end Clock ticking... Clock ticking... So, here's to your eyes And here's to your lies And here's to your Adolescent 1980s thighs And here's to the lies And broken ties And here's to the UFOs Lost in your bedroom eyes

Rio To Reykjavik What you see Is what you get She’s set for stun, boy You ain’t seen nothing yet Starlight lover My pretty friend We thought that rock ‘n roll Was never gonna end Shoulda been a singer Coulda been a superstar Driving down the Riviera In a brand new midnight Jaguar And there you are Coulda been a superstar Rio to Reykjavik 808’s still got that kick If I could only get inside your ecstasy Coulda been a superstar Shoot it up like a rocket I been hit by Cupid's dart With the light years between us, baby A waning moon and a breaking heart I was looking at the future Looking from the other side I still remember you Your face so soft, your soul so wide Shoulda been a singer I coulda been a superstar Driving down the Autobahn So clean, so new, in a blue Jaguar And there you are Oh, there you are!

Your Idiot 03:41
Your Idiot Crows were black, sky was white… Something didn’t feel right I met her when I was twelve and she was ten So much time has passed since then So much has changed She was so magnificently strange Wasted all of my time Just standing out here in line Tasted her mouth just like wine And the way she sways should be a crime If it fails it will only leave scars Succeeds…A bouquet of bright stars The moon on the floor in white shards We take nothing, ‘cause nothing is ours I’ll be your idiot.

Church Of The Holy Gun Picking up no signal Picking up no signal I spoke to people Who know people in high places. They'll get us out of here somehow. The Walking Wounded-- Glassy eyes and stony faces. We're both among their number now. Oh, I keep reaching for a future, But the past just drags me down. Oh, can you give me one good reason Why survival's worth it now? Intoxication, Desperation at every station. They soldier on, I don't know how. I spoke to people Who know people in high places. They'll get us out of here somehow. I keep driving for the future, But the past just strips my gears. When I saw you on the other side-- Your third eye crying cosmic tears. Time erases all our faces, Leaves no traces. The human race is run and lost. We took our chances, Devil's dances, pagan trances. But the romance had a cost. I spoke with people Who know people in high places. They'll get us out of here somehow. I spoke to people Who know people in high places. No way of turning back now. Two to midnight There's a rumble and a strange light-- The Dogs of War are at the door. Faith is broken, Hope's a token at the moment... Love comes crawling across the floor. Oh, help me smash all of these mirrors, Don't want to see what I've become. Oh, I'll meet you there on Sunday, At the Church of the Holy Gun. (Chorus) Give us enough rope...

Runaway 03:39
Runaway Come on little runaway Won’t you run away with me? You take it too hard All those things your mamma said I’m sure she never wished Such a pretty, little thing dead Come on little runaway Won’t you run away with me? I can take you so far If you just wander in my arms We could get so lost together Let them send out alarms Streets are filled with danger So follow me, my perfect stranger A girl like you might Surely cause a murder Come on little runaway Won’t you run away with me? We’ll take your daddy’s car Make the highway Lover’s Lane I can help you forget all the others You can be my love in the rain Come on little runaway Won’t you run away with me?

Sunken Spanish Galleons To the saber-rattling battalions Get ready for bitter war (Better batten down the hatches Hide your daughters And lock the doors) Swift like an Arabian stallion Golden like the cargo Of a sunken Spanish galleon Shout it from the rafters He slipped in the fifth... She was an animal We crept through the night on all fours Opening doors better left ignored A tattoo on her thigh read "Caution, Flammable" And it was perfectly understandable She was so fine she'd make a Buddhist into a cannibal She was my valentine How the clouds would bloom And the flowers shine Empty promises and cheap red wine How I miss my little valentine
12.
She’s Been On My Mind Is your heart Filled with Pain And shall I come back Again Tell me dear, are you lonesome tonight? Well, everybody always walks away Father, mother, wives, daughters Ain't she got the charms See you walking By my moonlit window You don’t know that you’re mine Love so deep People say it's a sin Though I think it's fine Watching the world run out of time It seems to me That things ain’t what they’re used to be Aren’t you lonesome tonight? Everybody always walks away She’s been on my mind…

Time Is Such A Mean Thing If she was And if I was She’s such a sweet thing Making all the birds sing Forever Time is such a mean thing Forever It’s a secret Don’t let nobody know Making those stars shine Making all the words rhyme Forever If she was And if I was She’s such a sweet thing Making all the birds sing Forever Time is such a mean thing

I’m Your Idiot (Reprise) Wasted all of my time Just standing out here in line Tasted her mouth just like wine Well, the way she sways should be a crime She always wore black Day & night Something didn’t feel right If it fails it will only leave scars Succeeds…A bouquet of bright stars The moon on the floor in white shards We take nothing, ‘cause nothing was ours I’m your idiot.

about

Sophomore album by Salem Witch Army

From the artist:
Thunder In Solitude / Sundown In Silence is a euphemism for the barrenness and impotency of trying, anymore. I talk but nobody listens; I listen, but am confined to hearing only what I want to hear. So, instead, I invade the space between my own ears with the most ravishing magic alien banquet eyes have ever feasted upon. Thus, I at least redeem something.

And, then I have dinner and off to bed.

SWA would love to thank the Muse who comes and goes so whimsically. She comes to us in our dreams, and if we're lucky, when she leaves, she leaves us with a song. We would also love to thank Carol Uzzo for her undying faith in these songs, and for her unstinting generosity--both in time and in money. Without her this record would not have occurred. We also thank her for lending her immaculate DJ ears to the project in designing the sequencing of the songs on the record, an often-overlooked--but nevertheless essential--element of conjuring art out of sound. And to Greg Talenfeld who is listed as "producer," but lent his creative musical genius to many of these songs, songs which would have only been shadows of what he helped them to become. We were struck dumb on many occasions upon hearing him turn something gold-ish into gold. And, speaking of, to Paul Gold, practitioner of the mysterious arts of "mastering" who added his technical faery dust to the recordings, making them all shimmer so delightfully beside one another. And, again, to the Muse.
Feel free to breeze into our dreams as often as you'd like.
We miss you when you're not here.

Thanks for listening!

The Declaration
Of Iridescence

I pledge allegiance
To the Muse
Who shines
From the blue vault
Of Eternity,
And to the Transcendence
Which she bestows:
One Army,
Sworn to love,
With poetry
And freedom
For all.
